News for June

Why do we belong and support SAQA?

The BEST ANSWER EVER is by our executive director Martha Sielman:

My theory of change for SAQA is that if we make art quilts visible enough, people will start to simply accept them as fine art rather than either telling you about their grandmothers or reacting with “Those aren’t quilts; they’re art,” because they’ll know that of course they’re art.

By making art quilts part of the expected landscape, we will make them part of the expected art world.

Big things Happening in Utah!

Utah is getting ready to get going with SAQA. On June 8th we had a wonderful meeting in the Salt Lake Area at “Handi Quilter” . What a great event to start the ball rolling. Big thank you to Brenda Groelz. Brenda invited us to meet in the gallery, gave us a tour of the factory floor and showed up the amazing collection of art quilts at the Handi Quilter headquarters.
