A SAQA Fiber Art Symposium

August 26, 2017

Dairy Arts Center, Boulder, Colorado

SAQA is pleased to announce that we are co-sponsoring a symposium on the art quilt, NEXT, to be held August 26, 2017 at the beautiful, newly-renovated Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, Colorado. This event will be part of a fabulous weekend of fiber art beginning with the opening of the 75 art quilt exhibit at the Dairy on August 25. Following the symposium, there will be a three-day workshop with Betty Busby at The Dairy, August 27, 28, 29.

Speakers for the Symposium will include current SAQA members. The keynote speaker will be Alice Zrebiec, former curator of textiles at the Denver Art Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Panelists will address what comes NEXT in the growth of the art quilt movement and include Regina Benson (installation artist), Nancy Bavor (Curator, San Jose Quilt Museum), Judith Content (silk artist and jeweler), Lisa Ellis (SAQA president), Susan Else (3-D fiber artist), Elaine Quehl (Canada) and Alison Muir (Australia), and others. This exciting program is designed to jump-start a new way of thinking about the art quilt.

Cost for the symposium will be $115 with a $20 discount for SAQA members. Included in this fee is a catered lunch.  Registration will open on November 1, 2016.

This symposium will be a great way for you to meet other SAQA members in our region.  We will also need volunteers to help with on-site registration and hospitality for out-of-town speakers.  If you have a home to share with a SAQA member please let us know as we are beginning to develop a list to pair people.  And, if you’d like to help with on-site registration or other tasks, please contact Bev Haring, CO-UT-WY SAQA representative, webspinner51@yahoo.com.

All artists are creating completely new work for this event.
