LONGMONT MUSEUM OPENS ART QUILT EXHIBIT
“Arboreal Musings” highlights work of contemporary quilt artist Linda Beach

The Longmont Museum has had a special connection with art quilts for more than 20 years, highlighting this field and the Colorado artists who influence it with group shows, traveling shows, and solo exhibitions. Estes Park quilt artist Linda Beach joins the list of distinguished quilters who have exhibited at the Longmont Museum with Arboreal Musings: Art Quilts by Linda Beach, which runs August 4 to September 23 2012.

The exhibition explores two forms of artistic inspiration: nature and poetry. The 22 quilts on exhibit celebrate and explore trees – solitary sentinel trees, ancient trees bent by wind, and groves of aspen and willow. Interspersed with the quilts are quotes from folk tales, from poets such as Kahlil Gibran, and from thinkers such as Ralph Waldo Emerson. According to Beach, “These quotations express in words what I am expressing through my art.”

Beach’s connection with nature comes from first-hand experience in some of America’s wildest and most beautiful places. She has been chosen Artist-in-Residence at four different National Parks — Denali National Park, Alaska, in 2005; Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado, in 2007; Acadia National Park, Maine, in 2008; and Mesa Verde National Park, Colorado, in 2011.

Linda Beach’s art has been selected for prominent national juried quilt exhibitions, including Quilt Visions 2008 and 2010 as well as ArtQuilt Elements 2010. She recently moved to Estes Park after many years of living in Alaska.
